No pressure, just post as "anonymous" if you like....if these posts bring about discussion and interest, that's good enough for me. Mike Shaw has to post his name though, hah!

Dark Ferruginous, probably an immature bird. Slight dark tail band, and I think I may see the hint of a wing panel on the primaries, which I believe is a good indicator of age, at least if seen on the topside. Is this a good way to tell young Ferruginous Hawks from below as well? Mike, if I'm wrong, help me out. I'm just a young guy!
Agree with Bryce. Juvi/Immature Dark Ferruginous Hawk. Faint white crescent showing in the under wing closest to us, slightly lighter chest color, slight white wing panel showing in the wing away from us, relatively large gape, and feathers to the feet. Slight banding showing in the flight feathers and tail indicate juvenile. Beautiful bird.
I agree with Bryce and Jeff. Jeff spotted everything that makes this a juvie bird. I concur with Jeff on it being a beautiful bird, but I'm biased, I think all Ferruginous Hawks are.
I thought everyone would get that one.....too many knowledgeable hawkers out there
thanks for posting,
Jerry
